Are there absolute truths or is everything relative?

by Matt Slick | Aug 25, 2009 | Relativism, Secular Issues

Yes, there are such things as absolute truths. But, some truths are relative. For example, it is always true that the number seven has a value of two more than the number five. It’s always true that something cannot bring itself into existence – because it would have to exist to perform an action. These are examples of truths that do not vary and are always true no matter what.

On the other hand, one person may believe that blue is a better color than green, whereas another person may disagree. In this case, what is true for one person is not true for another. Therefore, there can be relative truths that change. The person who believes that blue is a better color than green may change his or her mind later on.Are there absolute truths or is everything relative?

If every truth was relative, then the statement “every truth is relative” would not be relative. That would be self-refuting. So, saying that everything is relative can’t be true. Likewise, if everything were absolutely true so that all truths relate to it, then we couldn’t have such things as personal preferences or things that change. Relative truths can be things dependent upon each person.

That which is absolutely true, in this sense, is always true. That which is relatively true, in this sense, is not necessarily always true.

Unfortunately, more and more people cannot distinguish between absolute, independent truths and relative, dependent truths. They sometimes put their feelings and preferences above absolutes to make them more acceptable. The news media does this. Nevertheless, a typical example of relativism is when someone would say that “It is true for you that Jesus is the only way to God, but to a Muslim, Mohammed would be the only way.” Such statements ignore the logical impossibilities of having two “only-ways” to God.

So, there are absolute, unchanging, universal truths, and there are relative truths that are not universal and can change.

The ONLY absolute truths are The Absolutes:

  1. • Change. Everything changes through Time.
  2. • Within order, there is chaos. Within chaos, there is order.
  3. • Existence just IS. No purpose. No reason. No intention. Just, IS.
    • Life is the same way. Just came to be. No purpose. No reason. No intention. Just, IS.
  4. • Anything living, dies.

Truth, on the other hand, has a Scale exactly like Probability: 0 ≤ N < 1. Meaning, a scale of 0 but less than 1. For a zero probability, it would be written 0.00. For more, 0.000301. All the way up to the infinite 9s, 0.999 999 … As I shall reiterate: Those whom cannot comprehend infinity and its infinities are already mad and lost.

Besides, Einstein PROVED everything is relative to everything else. There is NO absolute Frame of Reference. Only your FoR is absolute for ONLY YOU. Why cannot that simple truth be understood by Religitards? Remember, you are basing your FoR on some invisible spook, automatically transferring its principles AS YOUR’s. You base YOUR absolutism onto your beLIEfs. You ain’t intelligent enough, nor knowledgeable enough to comprehend this simple truth. EVERYTHING IS RELATIVE. To each and every individual person. When many persons agree; thus, come our laws, both codified and !codified. How is that so difficult for YOU Religitards to comprehend?

I may have debunked the rest of this BSBD with the above. Let me read and find out. At this point in writing, I have only read Matt’s first paragraph and responded.

More irrelevant examples. This is a VERY COMMON occurrence amongst christinsane WWW sites.

If every truth was relative, then the statement “every truth is relative” would not be relative. That would be self-refuting. So, saying that everything is relative can’t be true. Likewise, if everything were absolutely true so that all truths relate to it, then we couldn’t have such things as personal preferences or things that change. But, “every truth is relative” is truthfulness with a 0.999 999 999 999 999 999 187 072 113 probability of truth. Why cannot ALL persons be free to pursue the answers to their questions, to discover the truth as they wish to see it (regardless of substantiation), to find their “inner SELF”? Why MUST only ONE ideology rule, dictate, and harm ALL persons intellectually instead?

That which is absolutely true, in this sense, is always true. That which is relatively true, in this sense, is not necessarily always true.

Remember, only The Absolutes are absolutely true. All else is relative.

And those many, many, …many “ “only-ways” to God-Thing ” is proof enough that religious beLIEfs are created by humans, only to rule humans. Since, as you put it, there is only one way to YOUR God-Thing, and us humans have invented many, many, …many “only-ways”, PROOF religion is False.

So, there are absolute, unchanging, universal truths, and there are relative truths that are not universal and can change.

Only The Absolutes.
